The Media is Starting to Report on the Media Now
In a time of
rapidly changing technology and fierce competition for audiences and revenue, a
new journalistic angle has emerged: the news will now report on itself.
NBC News announced
it is launching a media business unit that will report and analyze different
topics and trends within the news industry such as how news content is
distributed, innovations, and the effects of politics on news coverage.
This news comes
on the heels of other media outlets gravitating in the same direction. Fox
News, CNN Money, Politico and Vanity Fair all have reporters and writers
dedicated to media industry news.
I find this new
development very interesting and I cannot wait to see what it leads to, and if
it is going to catch on with news consumers. I think the media is starting to
see the writing on the wall and are recognizing the need for greater transparency
and accountability within the industry. I think type of reporting has the
potential to help news organizations regain some credibility.
What are your
thoughts?

This is interesting. I like the idea of it if it is done right as it could lead to better quality news. This is something I will be following up on to see how its going.
